A police pursuit that began in Lemhi County crossed state lines and ended in Montana Sunday night.
According to the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted a 2013 Ram 2500 traveling south on Highway 93 near Gibbonsville at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026. The vehicle had been reported as possibly stolen out of Ravalli County, Montana. The driver was identified as Brandon Matthew Fehring of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Initial reports indicated Fehring was possibly intoxicated and may have been armed with a handgun.
When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield and a pursuit began. Near Salmon, the suspect turned around and nearly struck a Lemhi County patrol vehicle before heading north on Highway 93 toward Lost Trail Pass.
Deputies continued the pursuit to the top of Lost Trail, where the Montana Highway Patrol deployed spike strips on the vehicle. The pursuit continued into Montana, where additional force techniques were used by Montana authorities to bring the chase to an end.
Fehring was taken into custody for crimes committed in Montana. The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office says additional charges will be forwarded to the Lemhi County Prosecutor.
All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
